Frequently asked questions
How do I look up a debt collector? ▼
Type all or part of the company name into the box above and submit. The tool searches 5,425 collectors in the CFPB Consumer Complaint Database and returns each match with its reputation grade and complaint counts.
What if my collector is not listed? ▼
A collector only appears once a consumer has filed a CFPB complaint naming it. Smaller or newer agencies may not yet be in the federal database. Try a shorter or alternate spelling of the name.
Does a high complaint count mean the collector broke the law? ▼
No. CFPB complaints are consumer-submitted reports, not adjudicated findings. Large collectors also handle more accounts, so absolute complaint counts partly reflect portfolio size.
